Intelligent and Model-based Systems Engineering

In this research focus, we investigate intelligent and model-based approaches for the development of complex technical systems. The aim is to support development processes in a holistic manner - from early ideation and requirements engineering through the design and evaluation of product architectures to the use and further development of existing system models.

A core focus lies on the systematic handling of knowledge and models. We research methods for knowledge management, model reuse, and the automated, x-oriented design of product architectures along end-to-end digital process chains. Design automation and innovative x-to-model technologies enable the consistent integration of different perspectives, such as requirements, functions, structures, or sustainability goals or the automated generation of models.

In addition, we integrate methods of life cycle assessment (LCA) to enable early evaluation of environmental impacts of product design and usage scenarios and to support informed design decisions. In this way, our approaches contribute to transparent, risk-aware, and life-cycle-oriented system development.
