Circular Systems and Lifecycle Engineering
The research area Circular Systems and Lifecycle Engineering centers on the planning and design of sustainable technical systems with the aim of reducing environmental impacts throughout the entire product lifecycle.
Our research focuses on component reuse, design for circularity, and the targeted planning of product and system life cycles. Using reverse engineering, we analyze existing and used products and systems to gain knowledge about structure, condition, and usage, and to make this knowledge available for the development of new product generations.
In addition, we investigate data-driven methods for modeling and predicting degradation processes. Application-specific degradation models, similarity analyses, and transfer learning form the basis for sound life-cycle planning and for decisions on the continued use, adaptation, or replacement of components. In this way, durable, adaptive, and sustainable products are created.
