“Introducing myself” - The exclusive IMW interview with our new colleague.
The Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMW) welcomes Mr. Bhatt to the Chair of Integrated Product Development (Prof. Dr.-Ing. David Inkermann) from November 12th, 2024. To get to know our new colleague better, we have conducted a short interview for you.
1) Short & simple: Tell us something about yourself!
Dr. Phil. Aproov Naresh Bhatt: I completed my PhD under the guidance of Professor Amaresh Chakrabarti at the Department of Design and Manufacturing (DM), Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, India. My research primarily focused on design theory and design education. My doctoral thesis centered on the development and evaluation of design thinking pedagogy, including the creation of various tools to support and enhance the practice of design thinking.
Prior to joining TU Clausthal, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB).
2) Way2IMW: How did you hear about the IMW & what motivated you to join us?
Dr. Phil. Aproov Naresh Bhatt: During my PhD, I had the privilege of meeting Professor Inkermann during the ICED 21 conference, held online. During our interactions, I discovered significant overlaps between his research interests and mine. Since then, I have been closely following the work conducted by his research group.
Upon completing my PhD, I began seeking opportunities for postdoctoral research. My PhD supervisor, Professor Chakrabarti, connected me with Professor Inkermann. I learned that Professor Inkermann’s research group at IMW is actively involved in developing and evaluating simulation games for teaching systems engineering to engineering students. Additionally, the group also involved in compelling research areas, such as Design for the Circular Economy and Collaborative Product Development.
Given the alignment of these research areas with my own interests and goals, I recognized that joining this research group would provide an ideal platform for me to learn, contribute, and grow as a researcher.
3) Work@IMW: Which areas (research & teaching) will you be responsible for at the IMW?
Dr. Phil. Aproov Naresh Bhatt: I am currently responsible for teaching design thinking to students enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Engineering Project as part of the master’s program in Intelligent Manufacturing. My primary research focus lies in the areas of engineering design education and Design for the Circular Economy. Additionally, I aim to explore other related domains, including model-based systems engineering and reverse engineering.
4) Motivation³@IMW: Name 3 keywords that you bring to the IMW as your own motivation.
Dr. Phil. Aproov Naresh Bhatt: Collaboration, Education, and Sustainability
Thank you very much for the exciting interview and the brief introduction. We wish you a successful start and look forward to an exciting collaboration at the IMW!
