As part of the course "Development Methodology" in the winter semester 2025/2026, students from the Institute of Mechanical Engineering at Clausthal University of Technology had the opportunity to visit Piller Blowers & Compressors GmbH in Moringen. The event is offered every winter semester and combines theoretical content with practical projects from industry. In interdisciplinary teams, students work on real tasks from partner companies and develop innovative solutions based on the latest development and planning methods. The aim of this year's project is to develop a concept for the assembly/disassembly of the rotor of permanent magnet synchronous machines. The magnetic attraction forces that occur in the process lead to problems that need to be taken into account in the solution, especially for larger series. The concepts developed will be presented and evaluated at the end of the event as part of an internal competition, with prizes being awarded to the best teams.
The visit to Piller Blowers & Compressors provided valuable insights into industrial practice as well as a direct exchange with experienced engineers. This close connection between academic training and real challenges from the corporate environment is a central component of our teaching concept and helps students to further develop their methodological and technical skills in a practice-oriented manner.
We would like to thank Piller Blowers & Compressors for the excellent cooperation - especially for the design of the current construction project task, the friendly welcome and the great hospitality during our visit. We are looking forward to the creative solutions that our students will develop over the course of the semester and present at the end, and wish all teams every success in their future project work.
Such collaborations are of great importance to us in order to closely link teaching and practice. We look forward to further joint projects and to continuing this successful partnership.
