On the initiative of industry partner Isotronic GmbH, participants in the development methodology project gained an insight into plant engineering for the production of tubular glass packaging at Müller + Müller - Joh. GmbH & Co.
The Development Methodology course is a compulsory course in the Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering and is an optional course in other degree programs. The learning objectives of the course are assessed in a project work, which is carried out together with an industrial partner. This year, the company Isotronic GmbH, which designs and supplies inspection systems for machines used in the production of tubular glass packaging, was acquired. Teams of 4-5 students work together to find the best solution to the problem, applying the content taught in the lecture.
An excursion is an integral part of the course in order to be able to understand the problem based on impressions of the real plant. On 08.01.2024, the students set off on the bus to Holzminden at 11:00 am. The special feature of this year's excursion was that it took place at a customer of the industrial partner. After being welcomed by Mr. Viktor Martinewski (former TU Clausthal student), Mr. Gregor Fabritius from Isotronic GmbH and Mr. Florian Müller-Stauch from Müller + Müller - Joh. GmbH & Co. KG gave a company presentation of the two companies. This was followed by a tour of the production facilities. The dimensions, temperatures and cycle times of the processing machines amazed many a visitor. In particular, the quality assurance via inline measurement using the Isotronic GmbH inspection system was of interest to the participants of the excursion. Measurement in fast-paced production operations is the challenge of this year's project.
They returned to Clausthal with lots of ideas and information about the project.
The presentation of the solutions will take place on February 5, 2025 as part of the final event, when the grade of the examination performance and an award for the best solution will be presented by the industrial partner.
